Once upon a time……

HI! My name is Jo and I am the owner of Cucucbo Crafts. Let me tell you a story….

Once upon a time creative young girl decided she would be a doctor, so she would have a good income. She spent 5 years studying biology and slowly got more and more unhappy, spending all her free time making things and coming up with crazy crafting idea just to make it through college. One day, after nearly failing an anatomy test, she sat down and really thought about the path she was on. Her heart wasn’t in the life sciences and that made studying for the grades she needed difficult. Her mind would wander to her next project instead of her advanced biology homework. She came to the decision that happiness was more important than the money and knew then she needed a career that was more creative. She finished the degree because the end was near at that point, but she no longer had a goal beyond that. She returned home and was adrift working for a craft store. She made the decision to join Peace Corps, so her degree wouldn’t be a complete waste. In Nepal she had many experiences, both good and bad, that helped open her eyes to possible paths she could take to moving forward.

Unfortunately that’s when the virus descended, thrusting the unprepared young woman back to the US. Once again she was lost. There were many options and though she wished to be an artist, she also wanted something more stable. More school seemed to be necessary for any new path, so she started working on an associate’s degree in computer aided design (CAD) and after a few quarters knew she had finally found something she could really enjoy and decided to go even further to get her masters in architecture. With some projects under her belt and many to come in the future she has decided to share her journey with as many people as she can.

Surprise! That girl was me, Jo. I have followed a winding path of uncertainty for many years leading me to this point where I can finally say that I am content and ready for the next stages of my life; a.k.a. a masters degree. I finally have the confidence to show people the things I am proud of and I have the time to put more into the etsy shop I set up years ago. I started with quilting and making costumes for cosplay as a fun pass time while in college. Quilt design was my first step into CAD, though not in the traditional sense. Now 10 years after starting pre-med I am working on a masters in architecture. It’s amazing how much life can go in directions you might never expect. While working at the craft store I taught some of the classes and it was one of my favorite parts of the job.

Cucubo Crafts is my way of continuing that in my free time. I love making patterns and how to guides and honestly I want to show off the things that come out of my brain. I love to hear feedback from people and want to use this blog and my YouTube channel as a way to expand my skills, keep myself motivated, and create a thriving community of crafty people. Life is better when surrounded by wonderful people!

I will respond through any of the social links on this website, so please reach out if you have something to say.
